The Small & Delightful Railway Group is a group of friends who share a common interest in both the modelling of narrow gauge railways and the prototype lines in their many varied forms.
The group was founded in 1992 and is based in the Mid-Somerset area. the majority of the members live within an hour of Shepton Mallet. We have members, who live as far east as Essex and as far west as Pembrokeshire. The members have a wide range of scales and gauge ranging from N scale right up to G scale and 16 mm. Members have interests in all the UK narrow gauge lines as well as European and North American. For this reason, the Group decided not to build a Group layout as we knew we could never agree on a scale, gauge, setting or time period. The Group has built a multi- gauge test track.
The group meets 5-6 times/year in the Shepton Mallet area, usually on a Sunday, to discuss narrow gauge modelling projects. The AGM is held in July at a member’s house that has a G scale garden railway. The Group tries to organise at least 1 day trip to a prototype line each year.
As it is rare that members layouts participate in NGSW, the Group holds an Open Day every 2nd year in September, where members bring their layouts together with some their friends to have a fun and relaxing day. The event is also used generate funds for Glastonbury & Street Lions Club.
