About Narrow Gauge South West

Narrow Gauge South West is the largest all narrow gauge model railway exhibition held in the UK. The event was first held in 1993 and has grown to the point of being a highlight in the calendar for model railway enthusiasts and narrow gauge enthusiasts as well. The event tries each year to bring a wide variety of scales and gauges that are of a high standard that will hopefully inspire all modellers. The event has a well earned reputation for being a friendly and relaxed show, even though it is very popular.

The event came about as a result of 3 friends, Barrie Baker, Roger Trim and Howard Martin, visiting the Narrow Gauge South exhibition in Sparsholt in 1992.Over a cup of tea, the idea of forming the Small & Delightful Railway Group in the West Country started, which lead to the first NGSW being organised.

There are usually over 20 layouts covering all scales from ‘N’ to G & 16 mm. Due to their popularity, the majority of layout are in the 00/HO and 7 mm scale categories.

There is a wide variety of trade support, whose details are included in this site. In addition most of the narrow gauge model railway societies/associations are present with their publicity stands.

For many visitor’s the highlight of exhibition is the refreshment service, known as ‘Maggie & Flo’s Bistro’, that serves light refreshments and wonderful home made cakes made by a group of ladies who are either married to members of the SDRG or their friends.

The event is now regularly attended by over 800 people and if you haven’t visited before, please come along and enjoy a very friendly exhibition. If you have been before to Shepton Mallet, we hope that you enjoyed yourself and will come again.
