About the Small & Delightful Railway Group

"The Small and Delightful Railway Group is a group of friends who share a common interest in both the modelling of narrow gauge railways and prototype lines in their many varied forms.

The group was founded in 1992 and is based in the mid-Somerset area and the majority of members live within an hour of Shepton Mallet. We have members as far away as Essex. The members interests are wide ranging in scale from N to G and 16mm and prototypes in the United Kingdom, Europe and North America. The group has a multi-gauge test track.

Members meet on an ad-hoc basis at member’s houses or in a local pub. The AGM is held in July each year at a member’s house that has a G Scale railway, which is a good reason to eat cake. The group also organises at least 1 trip each year to a narrow gauge line and every 2 or 3 years, this is extended to a weekend away, such as the narrow gauge Mecca of Mid and North Wales.

In addition to organising NGSW each year, the Group holds an Open Day every 2nd year in September, in Compton Dundon near Street, Somerset, where members bring their layouts together with some of their friends to have a fun and relaxing day. The event is also used to generate funds for Glastonbury & Street Lions Club.

The Group members with layouts are also seen at exhibitions across the West Country and the South of England.
